Who we are

Access Health and Community (AccessHC) is the new name for Inner East Community Health Service and Manningham Community Health Service. AccessHC operates in the Cities of Boroondara, Manningham and Yarra offering a range of medical, health and community services.

AccessHC is a not for profit organisation with caring at its centre. We also work within the community to address more broadly the issues which can lead to ill health and we operate a range of health education and disease prevention programs by ourselves and with our community partners. You can check out our other websites to see more of our services and activities:

Community health centres were established in Australia in 1973 and enabled equity of access to health services for Australians, especially for those people who were unable to pay for health care. Community health services operate within a social model of health and acknowledge the social, environmental and economic factors that affect health, as well as the biological and medical factors.

Manningham Community Health Service was established in 1992. From humble beginnings, Manningham Community Health Service has grown rapidly, our annual revenue increasing from $146,000 to $4.1m in 2014.

Our vision is that our community is healthy and well. This is supported by our values of Integrity, Equity, Enterprise, Effectiveness, Respect and Accountability.

Today, we offer a range of health services for adults and children, including physiotherapy, speech therapy, mental health services, diabetes education, dietetics, occupational therapy, and podiatry. We also offer a number of social support programs including the Men’s Shed, art therapy group, and music group. Services are offered as individual or family appointments, or group programs. Examples of our group programs are exercise groups, anxiety and depression groups, and education groups on a variety of different topics. Access to free interpreter services are available for most services.

Health promotion is another important program delivered through community health. At Manningham Community Health Service our health promotion priorities are prevention of violence against women and improving mental wellbeing.

We also coordinate over 100 volunteers who provide services to the community including transport to health appointments, exercise group assistance, administrative assistance, and making weekly phone calls to community members looking for a friendly ear.

We are an active participant in, and contribute to, our local community. This strong community connection enables us to be responsive to the needs of Manningham.

As a business, Manningham Community Health Service operates in a dynamic environment responding to client and community needs. We work collaboratively to build effective partnerships in Manningham and the Eastern Region. This enables us to provide the best possible services and programs to those most in need within our community.

Our strong governance structure and processes are overseen by a Board. The strategic directions established by the Board are implemented by the CEO. A management team, led by the CEO, manages more than 60 part time and full time employees, ensuring the smooth running of daily operations of the health service. The management team also facilitate regular strategic planning including risk management, operational direction, budgeting, and quality improvement.

Our services are provided from sites at Doncaster East, Doncaster, Lower Templestowe and Warrandyte.

Our funding is mainly provided by the State Government, through the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
