Improving the health of our communities
The health of our community is influenced by the social, environmental and economic conditions in which we live. These are called the social determinants of health and includes factors such as food, transport, work, early child development and social inclusion.
Health promotion is an approach to health and wellbeing that aims to improve the health of our communities through action on these social determinants of health. There are many different ways that this is done including education and behaviour change, advocacy for better access or treatment, and changing environments that support health and well-being.
